The history of Grand Rapids is analyzed and explained at the Public Museum through interactive exhibits, audio recordings and antique items. Visitors can learn about the Anishinabek people that lived in the region before European colonization, travel through the recreated Grand Rapids of the 1890s and see an unrivaled collection of items drawn from past inhabitants of the region. At the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium, exhilarating light and star shows are offered, and the museum also operates the Voight House, an 1896 Victorian house residing about 1.5 miles to the east of the museum grounds. The main complex is located at the Ah-Nab-Awen Park, near the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.
