Well, like I said, if I am going to go bowling in Grand Rapids, it's going to be at Eastbrook Lanes. I've been to a few other places and they have all been kind of dirty and a little sketchy. Eastbrook is in a good part of town and is kept up relatively well so that I don't get grossed out using their balls or bowling shoes. I've never had to wait, but you do if you want to do the weekend "rock & bowl" neon party thing. That thing starts getting a line about a half hour before it starts! My one complaint may be industry-wide, I'm not sure. But it seems like their prices are a lot higher than they used to be. I used to consider bowling a pretty cheap activity that friends could all get together and do for a reasonable price. But it seems that those days are over. For two games it's about as much as going to a movie, which is also overpriced. That said, it's still a fun place to frequent.

We went to AMF Eastbrook Lanes on a Friday evening and had no problem getting lanes. The employees were very friendly. Unlike many other bowling alleys, this one was not filled with cigarette smoke, which made the bowling more enjoyable. A waiter and waitress from the bar came to our table frequently as well, to take our drink orders. The music did get a little too loud toward the end, but I think they were starting a special teen night.

Eastbrook Lanes, given its close proximity to Center Pointe and Woodland Malls, is very popular with the younger crowd. As such, they seem to have a lot of activities geared towards youth. These include cosmic bowling and rock n' bowl. Despite it being pretty popular, it's usually fairly easy to get a lane, since the building has around 40. They usually run out of shoes in your size before they run out of lanes. There is also a pretty nice cocktail lounge on site for drinking after your game. Unfortunately, on weeknights and weekend days, the birthday party factor is pretty high and can be bothersome. Nonetheless, I've found Eastbrook to be a pretty good place to bowl.
